Blog Our Mosque Carpet Project for the Disabled People in Eskisehir
It is one of the priority issues for disabled people to be able to participate in social life and to use common social areas as disabled individuals and as they wish while continuing their lives. For this purpose, numerous legal arrangements have been made and implemented.
Project work for the construction of the mosque was carried out and implemented by identifying disabled groups and general needs as a priority.
The mosque aims to allow all users with or without disabilities to use the space without assistance. It is therefore planned as a single storey.
In the mosque structure,
- The mosque has four entrances.
- There is no elevation difference in the mosque entrances.
- On the surface of the mosque carpet, there are perceivable surface marks that the visually impaired people can follow.
The interior and exterior areas of the mosque are arranged so that they can be used outside of worship times. In the building of the Qur'an course, there is a library that serves to all age groups and is arranged so that it can be used for disabled people.
TRACKABLE MOSQUE CARPET APPLICATION FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
There are many methods simplifying the daily lives of the visually impaired people. One of them, "trackable surface", is a specially designed embossed surface material that addresses the developed sense of touch of visually impaired people, is applied to indoor and outdoor spaces, warns about obstacles in the physical environment. "Guide track" and "warning surface" in its body are defined by TSE 9111 "Building accessibility requirements for persons with disabilities and mobility restrictions".
The areas of worship are almost closed to use for believers with disabilities. The difficulty begins as soon as you step into the mosque courtyard. In the outer courtyard, orthopaedic disabled people who can overcome obstacles such as stairs, steps, sill can reach the main worship area where prayer is performed. But wheelchair users can't even get in. The visually impaired can find a place with the help of other people.
The main worship areas of the mosque and similar worship structures are covered with a mosque carpet. In order for those who have never seen it to use these areas without help, walk and stop warnings must be put on the carpet and felt with the soles of their feet. For those who can see little, it is also necessary to make the same texture perceived with colour and contrast.
As a result, a new method and technology is needed in the main worship areas of mosques for visually impaired people.
The visually impaired can feel tactile information processed into carpets in the main areas of worship and get this feeling over the surface. Pressing on the prayer area with just a sock makes it as easy as possible to feel and perceive from the soles of their foot.
When properly arranged, they can follow the palpable surface and find the place to pray unaided. Contrasts in colour and tone should also be used for those who see little.
With the mosque carpet project carried out by Asil Carpet, carpet production for disabled people was implemented.
The purpose of using the "guide track" on the carpet is to ensure that visually impaired people are safely guided in the direction in which they will go.
The purpose of the "stimulating surface" is to enable visually impaired individuals to safely stand and change direction in the main worship area.
